Since the closure of the 'Skyview' observation area for redevelopment, there are no facilities for aviation enthusiasts at Gatwick apart from a few unofficial viewing points around the Airport perimeter.
When using these viewing areas, there is a possibility that you will be addressed by either the Gatwick Police or the BAA Security patrol teams. The underlying reasons for this will be clearly understood by most enthusiasts.
In order to maintain the good relationship we share with the authorities and provide an efficient and effective two- way dialogue, Gatwick Police are introducing a method whereby enthusiasts can be easily recognised to avoid unnecessary disruption to their activities and provide a special channel for communication of any suspicious or unusual activity.
Anyone interested in cooperating with this initiative is asked to complete the form available by clicking the link below and mailing it to the Police scheme administrator. We are advised that there has already been an excellent response since the idea was floated by Gatwick Police at LGW2007 and encourage anyone who has not yet done so, to complete a form. These are also carried by most Police perimeter patrols.
Plans are proceeding well to introduce a formal arrangement which will result from registration. Details will be posted here and distributed when available but are expected to be based around a specially designed ID card probably similar in form to those available at a few other UK airports etc. It is hoped that these plans will include visitors from afar as well as local enthusiasts.
The need for a separate scheme specifically for Gatwick is for Police organisational and security reasons and one which we fully respect and support. Any suggestions or comments you have may also be submitted on this form.
